Pieminister pie pots review

Hi everyone!

Apologies that I haven’t blogged for a few weeks, I wanted to take some time off after Christmas to recharge my batteries. However, I’m feeling refreshed and looking forward to posting regularly again!

I received an amazing package from Pieminister recently containing their new pie pot range. Now as you might know, I reviewed Pieminister’s Cardiff restaurant back in November and loved it. So, I had high hopes for these.

Pies without the pastry!
Pies without the pastry!

They didn’t disappoint. The four potato-topped pots are packed with all the exceptional flavours and quality ingredients I expected – just minus the pastry. They’re all super filling and tasty making them ideal for a healthy lunch but empty the pot onto a plate, add a few portions of veg and you’ve got yourself a quick, wholesome dinner too.

Each pot is ready in four minutes in the microwave but they don’t taste like your average microwave meal. They taste homemade and fresh! I’ve done a little review of each variety below:

Meany bean

  • Vegetarian Society Approved
  • Gluten Free
  • Only 263 calories per pot

A mixed bean, butternut squash & chilli Pie Pot with a spicy potato top. The beans were filling and there was plenty of butternut squash, much to my delight. There was a bit too much chilli for me but the hotness didn’t put me off, I would eat it again!

Moo & Brew

  • Made with 100% British beef
  • Made with award winning craft beer from Bristol
  • Only 292 calories per pot

A British beef steak & craft ale Pie Pot with a herby potato top. This was like eating a homemade beef casserole – the beef was tender and the thick, rich gravy had a kick of ale that wasn’t too strong. Serve with vegetables for a hearty dinner on a cold evening.

Matador

  • Made with 100% free range British beef
  • Made with 100% free range British ‘chorizo’
  • Just 400 calories per pot

A British beef steak & chorizo Pie Pot with a Spanish spiced potato top. Again, the beef was tender and paired well with the smoky chorizo flavour. A warming and comforting pot guaranteed to add a little spice to your day.

Cheeky Chick

  • Made with 100% free range British chicken
  • Only 329 calories per pot
  • Gluten Free

A creamy chicken, white wine & leek Pie Pot with a herby potato top – a simple yet delicious combination. The chicken was perfectly moist and the white wine sauce was flavoursome. Possibly my favourite out of them all but it’s a tough call!
