Let yourself grow; stop competing with other flowers and just bloom

I know they’re not everyone’s thing but I do like a motivational quote. I find that they resonate with me or make me see life in a different way. Quite powerful really.

I follow a few quote accounts on Instagram and sometimes, reading an uplifting message  is exactly what you need to keep going. Whatever you’re going through, there’s always a quote to sum up your thoughts perfectly.

One of recent favourite quotes is by Zen Shin;

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.”

This resonates with me because I have been guilty of comparing myself to others in the past. I still do it when I’m having a ‘bad’ day or feeling unsure of myself. Self-doubt does happen occasionally, I’m only human.

But the majority of the time, I try not to worry about other people. It’s a complete WASTE of time and energy. Can you imagine how much you’d thrive if you put your heart and soul into improving yourself rather than being consumed what others are doing instead?!

I’m all about self-improvement. Spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. I make a conscious effort to work on myself every day whether it’s reflecting on my thoughts, connecting with people around me, finding the positive in every situation (it’s really worth practicing this!) or working out in the gym.

So, the whole concept of ‘blooming’ like a flower is really important to me. And it’s a concept which everyone should be mindful of. Forget about the other flowers, as such. Just plant yourself and grow as a person. Do not obsess about what others are doing because it simply stops you from blooming. As selfish as I feel saying it, the only person you should be truly obsessed with, is yourself.
