Flower power; playing dress up in split sleeves

As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m totally embracing my glamorous and girly side this season. Out goes the head-to-toe black (for now!), edgy pieces and grungy vibes and in comes the pretty colours, lace details and of course, the florals.

Flower power

I know florals aren’t exactly revolutionary at this time of year. In the words of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada; “Florals for spring? Ground-breaking.” However, I’m really loving them lately as they’re helping me feel extra sassy and really lift my mood.

This floral mini dress caught my eye in Topshop not so long ago. I thought the colour combination of peach, grey and red was really unusual but somehow it worked. Initially, I was unsure whether it would suit me but it’s one of those dresses which looks so much better once it’s on.

Doing the splits

I was also unsure of the split sleeves at first but again, they’re something I had to try out before making a judgement. They’re probably not for everyone and I’m sure that they would put some people off as they are quite fussy but they certainly grew on me.

This is definitely a dress I’d wear on a special occasion as it stands out of the crowd and is anything but boring. It has so many interesting details from the colours, to the print to the split sleeves. Due to the details, I kept the shoes simple. I just can’t enough of these pointed courts from ASOS!

Since the dress reminded me of the 1960s, I kept my hair and make-up in with the era. I back-combed my hair to get a voluminous look, added a quiff for extra height, lined my eyes and sported a very nude lip, which is much paler shade than what I’d normally wear.
