Dopamine dressing: wearing clothes to make you happy

Clothes bring me joy. I’ve been a fan of bright colours and prints since I was a little girl. Looking at photos, I was always dressed in funky attire – from rainbow check shorts with a clashing gingham top to vibrant orange floral dungarees under a bright yellow t-shirt and a sparkly Barbie headband.

I’ve never shied away from colours, prints and different textures and I’m not going to start now. Life is too short not to love what you wear. My thoughts are: you’re going to get dressed anyway so you may as well have fun with it!

You might have heard the phrase dopamine dressing this year, which involves dressing with the intention of boosting your mood. I don’t particularly follow trends but dopamine dressing is a bit of me. It takes me back to my childhood where you don’t worry about practicality or functionality, you just wear what you like!

Let me take you through some looks that have made me smile lately…

Multi ombre

Trousers, Liquorish. Top, Rebellious Fashion. Blazer, New Look gifted. Shoes, ASOS.

Who doesn’t need a pair of high-waisted, multi-coloured ombre trousers in their lives?! I couldn’t resist teaming them with this blue one shoulder crop top and oversized lilac blazer, kindly gifted by the fabulous New Look team. And don’t forget the floral platforms!

The clash

Dress, Never Fully Dressed. Shoes, River Island.

This dress is just beautiful. I adore everything about it – the cool, clashing print, the balloon sleeves and the colours. I didn’t expect it to be so flattering on either! It felt slinky but not too clingy and draped in the right places. 10/10!

Gingham girl

Dress and shoes, ASOS.

Gingham is perfect for summer as it’s so lightweight and airy! This stunning maxi dress is no exception, it’s ideal for floating around on hot days. I’m a big fan of the shirred bodice, I think it’s so flattering for smaller busts like mine. Lilac and yellow is such a lovely colour combination as well.

Desert-inspired

Dress, Never Fully Dressed. Bag, Topshop. Trainers, River Island.

I had a few bemused looks when I was out and about in this groovy little number but that doesn’t bother me. It’s a stand out piece, which certainly isn’t for the shy and retiring! It’s not every day you see such a playful print either. Another joyful item in my wardrobe!

Over the Rainbow

Skirt, Never Fully Dressed. T-shirt, Zara. Cardigan, In the Style gifted. Trainers, Nike.

The best thing about wearing colour is that it really does brighten up your day. Even looking back at this outfit cheered me up! The skirt alone is a great mood booster but paired with a bright pink t-shirt and electric blue cardigan, I was raring to go!

Which outfit do you like the most?
