I’m really obsessed with perfumes for women. In fact, I don’t know why I don’t write about them more often as I have a huge collection and have a habit of keeping all the empty bottles, especially pretty ones such as the Marc Jacobs and Viktor & Rolf varieties or more chic bottles like the Chanel or Jo Malone varieties.
Here are a few scents that I’m loving at the moment.
Diptyque Philosykos – £55 for 50ml, £72 for 100ml
I’m not usually drawn to woody scents but this smells so fresh, green and gorgeously sweet – it’s hard not to like. It’s a really unique scent – I’ve never smelled anything like it before. It’s like the smell of trees after the rain or crushed leaves. The fragrance develops into a creamy, coconut scent before drying down to a sensual, mellow cedar. It’s remarkably natural smelling and beautifully uncomplicated. It lasts pretty well too. Obviously, everyone’s perfume taste is different but if you’re looking for something new, I’d urge you to try this.
Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise, £39 for £30ml, £78 for 100ml
I always like the idea of smelling like vanilla but most scents on the market are often too sickly and cloying. Or as I like to call them – headache-inducing. But Jo Malone’s vanilla offering is not like any of the others. It’s a warm scent of oaky caramel-rich vanilla spiced with star anise. So you get the sweetness of vanilla with just the right amount of spice. Rich but not overpowering and ideal for daytime or evening wear. Perfect!
Vera Wang Woman, £59 for 50ml, £79 for 100ml
I’m a fan of Vera Wang scents but I’ve always leaned to the younger offerings of Princess or Lovestruck. Although they are beautiful fragrances, I feel it’s time to try a more grown-up variety in the form of Woman. It certainly is more mature than the other scents – I’ve read online that it’s considered an ideal perfume for a bride to wear on her wedding day! It combines the scents of Bulgarian rose, calla lily, mandarin flower, gardenia, white stephanotis and sheer musks – it’s classic, elegant and a sensual scent. Perhaps not for everyday wear but definitely for special occasions.
