Without sounding like I’m blowing my own trumpet; I’ve had a few compliments about my style over the years.
While I don’t pretend to be fashion goddess (I’ve made plenty of mistakes!), I definitely know what works for me and what doesn’t. So, with that in mind, I thought I’d share some of my tips with you.
When in doubt, stick to basics
My number one tip for looking stylish is stick to basic pieces if you’re unsure of what to wear. Stock up on quality jeans, t-shirts, skirts, knitwear and jackets in neutral colours that can be mixed and matched for any occasion. You just cannot go wrong with a good pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
But don’t be afraid to experiment
Although I’m a fan of simple outfits, I’m not afraid to experiment either. Life is too short to look safe all the time so if you’re feeling confident, slip on those metallic brogues, rock those floral trousers, throw on that sequinned jacket. Fashion is meant to be fun too!
Go for black
Black is figure-flattering, chic and works for every season. In fact, I can’t think of any other colour which looks stylish all year around, whatever the weather. Plus, it always looks effortless. Who knows if you’re wearing high-end or high-street? With black, it could be either!
Choose versatile pieces
Before I buy anything, I ask myself “Will I wear this more than once?” and if the answer is no, I don’t buy it. I hate the idea of wearing something once then hanging it in my wardrobe never to see the light of day again. Always choose versatile pieces that you can wear time and time again!
Add designer accessories
Designer accessories like scarves, glasses, purses, sunglasses and purses are a great way to add a touch of luxe to your look without forking out a fortune. Okay, they’re still pricey but far cheaper than that £3000 Chanel jacket. A girl can dream…
