What to pack for city breaks

I tend to go on city breaks much more than holidays because they’re easier to plan and I like to spread out my annual leave over the year rather than use most of it up in one go.

This year, I’ve visited Brussels, Amsterdam, Bruges and am hopefully going to a few more European destinations over the next few months. Not to mention countless trips to London.

With this in mind, I thought I’d share some of my tips on what to pack for city breaks. Whether you’re heading somewhere European or to a UK destination, I hope you find these useful!

Top tips for packing for city breaks

  1. Denim can be dressed up or down and worn with all kinds of footwear so pack a good pair of jeans in a colour which will go with everything. You can’t go wrong with an indigo shade or trusty black.
  2. Take layers and lots of them. Go for knitwear in neutral shades that can be worn with a variety of different outfits. Include a few t-shirts too as they can be worn under a snug sweater or alone if temperatures rise. Striped tees are effortlessly cool.
  3. Throw in a pair of heels to jazz up your jeans in the evening – they will take an ensemble from casual to chic in seconds. Shoe boots are my favourite!
  4. A low maintenance dress will be a lifesaver. It needs to be stylish, simple and good for layering. I love suede dresses at the moment as they don’t really need any accessories and work well for day to night looks!
  5. Trainers are a must. Especially if you’re doing a lot of walking or exploring. Any comfortable pair will do but if you want a pair that will look cute with every outfit, I recommend Converse in versatile colours. I have a black and a white pair, which both come in handy!
  6. Don’t forget your sunglasses. Whether you’re sightseeing or sipping a cocktail from the rooftop bar, you’ll hate to be without them if it’s sunny. They’re also great for covering tired eyes when you’re out and about on early mornings or when you just cannot be bothered to put mascara on!
