Beating the January blues with Pizza Express

I’ve never particularly liked January so this year, I’ve made a conscious effort to keep my spirits up. New pyjamas, early nights and pamper sessions have certainly kept me going after the excitement of Christmas!

The new menu at Pizza Express has also perked me up this January. They’ve launched a range of comforting and warming dishes to get us through the season. The ‘new’ additions have featured on the menu before but due to customer demand, they’re making a welcome comeback.

Phil and I were eager to sample the new menu so last week, we arranged a lunch date at our local Pizza Express. It was just the thing to brighten up a dull and dreary Sunday afternoon. Lots of good food makes us both very happy!

I don’t drink alcohol so the new Apple, Pear and Raspberry Juice was the perfect thirst-quencher. On the other hand, Phil still enjoys a tipple and chose the new Sloe Prosecco (prosecco with a splash of Sloe gin and a fresh raspberry).

Starters

After indulging in heavy food over the festive period, I was more than happy to have the Superboost Salad. With a mix of black rice, edamame beans, red quinoa, chickpeas, kale, rocket and roasted peppers, it was a fresh and light dish to start.

Meanwhile, Phil chose the Pennette Formaggi which is Pizza Express’ take on macaroni and cheese. Baked with garlic oil, black pepper and a three-cheese sauce, it was a tasty and rich way to whet his appetite before the main course.

Next, I chose the Etna Romana pizza which had a combination of sweet roquito peppers, salty pancetta and hot nduja sausage. However, I was worried about the pizza being too spicy for my taste so I swapped the peppers for olives. Yum!

Phil went for the Barbacoa Romana which features smoky pulled beef, a spicy chipotle salsa, mozzarella and passata with a fresh finish of chopped tomato, red onion and fresh coriander. He loved it and said it was his favourite pizza ever from Pizza Express.

Desserts

To finish, I tried the Vanilla Cheesecake with fresh mint tea. I’ve always avoided the cheesecake in the past because it seemed like the ‘boring’ option but it was delicious, especially with the fruit coulis. I would not hesitate to eat it again!

Phil chose the Honeycomb Cream Slice, which is probably our favourite dessert on the menu. It’s divine! He also had a Flat White Martini to round off the meal, a creamy cocktail of Baileys and vodka with an espresso kick. A great boozy alternative if you don’t fancy a dessert!

Yet again, we had a fantastic meal at Pizza Express and cannot wait to go back again.

*Please note that Pizza Express provided a complimentary meal in return for a review. As ever, my opinions remain honest and unbiased.

I’ve never been to Pizza Express before but all the food looks absolutely delicious, especially the puddings! You’ve convinced me to visit next time I’m in town.

I’ve never been to Pizza Express before but I think I remember going past it when I was in London a few years back- all of their foods looks delicious though (especially those desserts…)
